Sinker cypress box beams stand out from typical beams, as the wood has spent hundreds of years submerged in the Louisiana swamps and bayous after being harvested from ancient virgin forests. These trees, aged between 150 and 1,500 years at the time, give the beams a distinct variety of colors and exceptional durability. Tight growth rings (approximately 35-70 growth rings per inch) set it apart from today's wood, and such quality is no longer available in today’s growing forest. The tight grain pattern makes the wood much more durable and aesthetically pleasing than typical cypress grown in today’s commercial forests. Each piece of wood comes with a story, and now that story will live on. The luxurious touch of sinker cypress box beams, with their distinct look, creates a sense of awe. We've refined our design and technique to create the perfect faux beam. The beam is made from real wood, kiln-dried, and virtually indistinguishable from traditional beams. Every part of the process, from bayou to home, occurs in Louisiana.

Description
There is something inherently alluring about preserving relics from a different time period. Sinker cypress is truly a rare piece of history, soaked in tradition. The history surrounding sinker cypress is a buried national treasure, making it even more desirable. Its historic value and recovery process only add to its rare beauty. The wood for our box beams is pulled from the bayous with Shelby “The Swamp Man” Stanga, milled, kiln-dried to 10-12% moisture content, and expertly crafted in the USA, at our Louisiana shop. The beams are made from real reclaimed wood and virtually indistinguishable from traditional solid wood beams. Sinker Cypress is recognized for its stunning array of grain patterns and colors, all influenced by its specific location on the riverbed where it settled. Clear finish is used to highlight the variety of colors of the natural wood-no stain needed! Our box beams are expertly crafted right here in the USA, at our Louisiana shop.
Crafted from reclaimed sinker cypress trees, these beams showcase the beauty and rarity of old growth cypress forests. By incorporating handcrafted beams into modern construction, we not only transform your space, but also preserve an integral part of Louisiana’s artisanal heritage. Some of these beams date back hundreds of years. Cypress beams’ unique grain lines and historical significance make them a standout choice, blending warm charm with modern design. Sinker Cypress wood box beams are appreciated for their unique color variations and historical significance. Box beams come in a variety of colors along with various custom size combinations to fit any design plan. The beauty of cypress box beams can elevate the aesthetic of any room, be it bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, family rooms, or commercial spaces.

Notes
As raw wood is used in its natural form, the table shown in the picture will slightly vary from the one purchased. This is natural wood and finished with a clear, matte coating. It provides a protective layer that makes the table scratch resistant and easy to clean. Each piece is uniquely created and one of a kind. Cypress retains moisture in pockets, which can cause the wood to crack and split. Unlike other companies, Southern Wood uses a state-of-the-art vacuum kiln to dry wood and prevent this from happening. Every slab is kiln dried to 10-12% moisture content in our iDry vacuum kiln. Each table has its own distinct color variations and characteristics. Woods of the same species may vary in color, grain pattern, and texture. All wood slabs are typically cut at 2 ⅛” and finish out between 1 ½” to 1 ⅝”. Natural wood may display small splits, knots, or other organic features unique to each piece. This is a real wood table, and it will react to water, humidity, and heat as well. All pictured tables are finished with a matte sheen, although additional sheens are available.
